Women are redefining retirement, and it is bigger and bolder than anything we have seen to date

Forget everything you thought you knew about retirement—because it’s obsolete. A growing movement is sweeping across the world, replacing retirement with something far more exciting: Refirement!

On March 8, 2025, Wendy Garcarz launched Refirement, a groundbreaking membership and digital platform designed for those who want to refire their purpose, career, and lifestyle instead of slowing down.

Wendy said “The traditional model of retirement is no longer appropriate for today’s society, and it certainly doesn’t serve older women. We have very different lifestyles to those of our mothers and grandmothers. We are living longer, we embrace lifelong learning, and we see our years beyond retirement full of new adventures. We are not ready to put our feet up, sit still or conform to stereotypes. I have heard from women from across the globe who want to reinvent what retirement means to them. That is why today, I am delighted to be officially launching the Refirement movement.”

According to HR Magazine, approximately 11% of people over 50 have returned to work after retiring, driven by desires to stay mentally active (62%), cope with rising living costs (37%), and regain a sense of purpose (32%). People are choosing to start all over again and Refirement wants to show them how.
